The two main agencies responsible for issuing
water quality protection permits are the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers and the Kansas
Department of Health and Environment. The ARC board monitors these
permits and submits public comments regarding permits that impact water quality
and water policy both within and outside the Arkansas River watershed.
Without input from citizen-based groups, regulations can often be watered-down. If there are permits you
would like to comment on, please draft a letter and send to us.
We will try to accommodate all requests that support the goals
of the Coalition. Public Notices for permits can be found on each of the
Corps of Engineers website (Albuquerque,
Kansas City,
Little Rock, Tulsa)
and by reviewing the Kansas
Register for upcoming water quality permits and public comment periods for
various state regulations.
